Federal Trade Commission (FTC) 

A federal agency, the FTC protects consumers by stopping unfair, deceptive or fraudulent practices in the marketplace by conducting investigations into companies and people that violate the law, and educate consumers and businesses about their rights and responsibilities.

    Employers implementing the use of background checks must comply with federal laws under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), as well as applicable state laws on background checks. The FCRA requires that employers using consumer reports (background checks) for employment purposes must provide employees and applicants with a written disclosure and obtain their written consent before obtaining these reports.
